The Daily Prompt – Apprentice!

It started with a dire desire to succeed

It started with the zeal to excel

I was that Apprentice

I was young and enthusiastic

With an uncanny inquisitiveness

I wanted to learn at such a formative age

And she was willing to lead me

Mama became my first mentor

She tutored me as a young girl

Her masterclass triggered my springboard

Under her tutelage I learnt the tenets

The codes of conduct

The attitude to explore

To maximise my life

As I paid heed to her wisdom and counsel

I grew with a penchant to rule

My culinary skills soared

A gift I delightfully revel in

She sowed in me the seeds

Of moral values and social codes

My compassionate inclinations

My humanistic penchants

I was that Apprentice

Groomed by my first coach

My Mama

And her tutelage

A priceless gift
