Bitter kola as it is mostly called leaves a bitter taste in the mouth when it is eaten and its name is derived from that bitter taste. Bitter kola is about 3-5 cm in length and has an ellipsoid shape. It has a brown or coffee colour and white or off-white colour when it is peeled. The outer layer or skin must be peeled off before eaten.
Garcinia kola is available in large quantities in West Africa and it is classified as a powerful antibiotic that is essential for treating certain ailments. Bitter kola is highly sought after because of its high potency in the treatment of different diseases and ailments and it is an important ingredient in most herbal treatments.
