Random Facts About Me & My Beliefs!

I have written some random facts about me in the past. But it’s an inexhaustible list. So here are some more facts to nibble on today.

I am of the school of thought that anything worth doing is worth doing well with a laugh and a smile. I try to approach life and people with that in mind.  When I take stock of my life, I realised a long time that the best thing I can be is kind. Thus, I’m proud of my commitment to kindness. And these days, I do kindness with my common sense unlike before. Continue reading “Random Facts About Me & My Beliefs!”

Spread Good Vibes!

I was on the train and keenly watched someone take a selfie. She was busy making different facial expressions as she clicks the camera on her phone. I was enjoying the whole drama with this beautiful selfie-taker. Ah. Ndi selfie addicts! The mass hysteria for selfies shows it’s loved by many people. Until recently, I was not fascinated by selfies. I don’t even remember my phone camera. But all that has changed, now.

The lady was so engrossed with her ‘selfies’ that she didn’t notice my keen interest or perhaps, she didn’t care a hoot who was watching neither was she embarrassed that she was doing all of that in a public place. On the train. Continue reading “Spread Good Vibes!”

Boys Behaving Badly – By Pius Adesanmi

Today, I decide on a capitalist lunch alone. My assigned driver takes me to a capitalist restaurant – one of the elitist watering holes of anybody who is anybody in Nigeria’s centre of power.

I invite the driver to come in with me. He is shocked. He is used to waiting in the car. Or being given some change to go and find an appropriate Mama Put for his own lunch while the Ogas eat in the capitalist location. Continue reading “Boys Behaving Badly – By Pius Adesanmi”

Home – The Madness Only Home Understands

It all started yesterday afternoon with my feeling cheated that I paid for my car when I bought it in 2014 and nobody warned me that there are parts of it that I will never get to use because of the culture of Obodo Oyibo.

If you sell me a car, and the culture of your society says that I will never get to use the horn, should you not have deducted the cost of that useless, extraneous part from the overall price of the car? This is car number 6 or 7, since my student jalopy days back in British Columbia. Six cars, twenty years, two countries (Canada and the US) and I can’t remember ever having had to honk, sorry, to horn. Not once. Continue reading “Home – The Madness Only Home Understands”

Recalling My Childhood!

Growing up, we spent more times outdoors as kids. I experienced an outdoor childhood unlike what the norm is today. Those moments we spent outside with other kids were one of the greatest memories of my childhood.

Vacation from school meant coming together with friends for some unforgettable moments outdoors. We indulged in all kinds of play and took long walks into the neighbourhood, helping the others run errands. Togetherness was the watchword. And there were no acrimonious tendencies at that time. We shared our meals if need be. We enjoyed the feel of the sun on our backs and the slap of the wind on our faces giving us a breather as we inhaled freshness into our lungs. The healing powers in playing outdoors with friends nurtured me. I grew to appreciate the other person. It boosted the humanness in me. Continue reading “Recalling My Childhood!”

A Bottle Of Wine & A Cup Of Tea!

A few weeks after I arrived Denmark
I found myself in a new society with an entirely new culture
Every waking day, I try to grasp a bit of the whole new environment
And just then, my new friend and housemate
A PhD researcher introduced me to her Danish supervisor
During dinner, she hosted at our student hostel
Her supervisor came with his lovely wife
And we all chatted while eating the assorted dishes
Prepared by my amiable friend. Continue reading “A Bottle Of Wine & A Cup Of Tea!”

Tales From My Homeland!

December 9, 2018.

Lagos, Nigeria.

It was a beautiful Sunday Morning. I woke up very early to run some errands. I also wanted to avoid the long queue in most ATM cash points. I asked my Sister-in-Law to direct me to the nearest ATM Machine. My vacation was coming to an end and I needed cash for some vital purchases.

Sister-in-Law:  There are banks around the neighbourhood. But I think the nearest one is the one by the junction. I will suggest you leave now to avoid a long queue.

Me: Lol. Ok. I hope I will get cash because all these ATM appears to be for decoration given my experiences thus far in this country. Continue reading “Tales From My Homeland!”

My Travel Memoir!

The moment the reality struck me that today was the D-day, an uneasy wave of emotions bundled up inside of me churning my stomach to the point of nausea. It was a bittersweet feeling. This best described the condition I found myself as I packed the set of dresses inside the black box.

Everything was now ready and in a few hours, I would embark on the adventure to a new world. The preceding days have moved so swiftly and I didn’t realize it. Indeed, time runs so fast during such intense moments when we want it to slow down. Those moments when we still wish to savour the enormous love of the familial spirit that surrounds us. We don’t want to miss the fond affection of family and friends who have gathered to bid us goodbye. But today has happened so fast and there is a flight to catch. Washington DC In A Nutshell – Part 2

Let’s get going with some historical facts. Washington DC has tons of free museums. One need not bother with those that charge admission fees except if duly needed. It is pertinent to mention that The Smithsonian has 19 museums and there is every likelihood that one will never see all of them if on a short trip where only a few days will be spent. However, ideally, it is a good idea to prioritize the most popular places. Some of the best, for both adults and children which I’d recommend, is the Air and Space Museum for those with technical inclinations. The Natural History Museum; American History Museum, and the Archives. These are popular attractions for a reason which you should find out. Continue reading “A Recap of My Summer Vacation: 3”

A Recap of My Summer Vacation: 2

Washington DC in a Nutshell:

Travelling it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller. – Ibn Battuta

Whenever I visit new cities, one thing I do is to try and find a few unique things to do in the evenings. I start by asking Mr Google for directions and for some iconic places of interest to visit. I always like to know the tourist attractions of any destination I travel to even before my arrival in such a place. Besides fun activities and an adventure on local foodies of the land, I like doing a bit of ‘nerding’ out in Museums to check out antiques and artefacts. These things fascinate me and I love to have good collages of photographs as souvenirs for the future. It’s hard to share the dozens of photos I’ve so far gathered on this platform. It will definitely take up the whole space in my blog as well.  Continue reading “A Recap of My Summer Vacation: 2”
