The Night Marauders

It started like every other night

When family values are shared

The usual daily giggles

The whispers, the lullaby that

Ushers in the slumber nest

It started with a faint noise

Which rises in crescendo

As the wolves gang up

Poised for mutiny and misery

Ugly sights of sable demeanour

They were the monsters of gloom

Brandishing their cudgels of war

The tools of destruction

That sends cold chills on our spines

They made mincemeat of our ego and pride

As we coughed out our sundries and gold

Our toils of beaded sweat

We prostrated to the earth

Kissing the sole of their feet

Cringed in a world of delusion

We watched the monsters

Made away with our glories

Our world of harmony and bliss

The monsters of the night indeed.
