When he left her
She had spent years with him
That was enough to break her
And slowly extinguish her flame
When he left her
She was supposed to be shattered
But

She began to get used to her new lifestyle
Her solitary moments felt blissful
The food tasted more delicious
Taking a shower at night has never felt so good
Sleep became more peaceful
No one reminded her that she was good for nothing
And

She could still visit friends
She could still laugh hard
She could still sing in the shower
She enjoyed her food in peace
Life felt good even when it ought to taste sour
She could still breathe
But

When he left her
She was supposed to drown in her own tears
She was supposed to mourn his wicked exit
She was supposed to be crushed
And writhe in pain
And curse the day she was born
But

She managed the ordeal too well
She pushed herself to stay strong
She was broken but not shattered
And then it hit her
She didn’t lose anything
Rather she gained everything
And
**********
She wouldn’t let anyone ridicule her again
She wouldn’t let anyone deflate her ego again
She wouldn’t let anyone puncture her self-esteem again
She was free from his insanity
She was free from his evilness
She was free from violence
And
**********
She raised her glasses up
Good riddance to days of nightmares
Good riddance to long nights of horror
Good riddance to a life of torture
She was supposed to miss him
She was supposed to fall apart
But

She gained her dignity back
She gained her strength back
She gained her voice back
She danced to her new freedom
She danced to her new groove
She was broken but not shattered
She will live again
