The Daily Post Prompt – Dirty. Write a new post in response to today’s one-word prompt.
Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Suffice it to say that I dislike dirtiness. I love a clean body and a clean environment. Health is wealth and a clean environment is a healthy environment.
Enjoy this short fiction from the many thoughts begging to pop out from my head, as I ponder on how to tackle today’s prompt.
Will love to hear from you after the read. Thank you!
What’s going on here? How come this room is so unkempt and in total disarray? What? Who threw those pillows on the floor?
Me: Calls out her name – Nnenna…! Nnenna!
Nnenna: Yes, Mummy!
Me: What happened in here? Was there a wrestling match?
Nnenna: No mummy! We were playing and throwing pillows at each other…
Me: And you left this place like this… now, where is your brother?
Nnenna: He is… I don’t know where he is Mummy.
Me: Thought you wanted to say something … okay! Make sure you keep this place as tidy as it was before I left the house. Did you hear me?
Nnenna: Yes Mummy. Em Mummy, why did you return so early?
Me: Looked at her over and started walking away, whispering some inaudible words… “Okay, a glass of water will quench this thirst…” But, what did I see upon entering the kitchen. “No, not another one in here”…!
Me: Whaaaat? Oh Dear me! These kids will not kill me in this house
Where are you? Nnenna! Chinedu! Nneee….
Me: Walks out from the kitchen, now, wearing a stern look. Where are they…? Nnenna, so where is your brother? He was supposed to do the dishes, go take a look at that kitchen again and come tell me what you find.
Nnenna: Okay Mummy.
She returns looking sober and worried…
Nnenna: Mum mmmy, we are sorry! We were playing and didn’t know you will return so soon.
Me: …cuts her short… Tell me, what did you find in the kitchen?
Nnenna: I… I … I, no em, em, Mummy, the kitchen is dirty. It’s, it’s dirty because we didn’t do the dishes. And Chinedu forgot to mop the floor after dropping a bowl of water… Please Mummy, I will tidy up quickly and I promise not to leave the house dirty again.
Me: Where is this boy? How long does it take him to be in the shower? Chinedu! Chinedu!
I walked away heading towards my room. I’m just too tired to engage in more talks with these kids. Phew!

Raising children is difficult all over the world. There is no handbook that you get after delivery. Persistence, patience, and love are the tools that parents need to cope with this sometimes overwhelming challenge.

Absolutely correct! I agree. There is no manual on how to raise children. And kids behave almost same everywhere at certain ages… Hope you are having a nice weekend. Cheers! 🙂

That sounds like me when my kids were still home. But I have since relaxed. In fact, I was just commenting to another blogger about his post about kids. Check it out. It made me smile. https://thedaddyblitz.wordpress.com/2016/03/20/where-the-wild-things-play/

This is a nice post. Many parents go through this. Before the children start doing the right things they do the wrong ones many times.

Raising children is something that only God can give you grace for. It can wear you out but with His grace, you are happy to do it the next day. Great writing
